Getting the best from Backgammon software!

Well computer games are fun to work with and they are popular. I mean how many of us have popped open a computer Solitaire game just to break the monotony of a routine office day. But for hard core backgammon players, bigger and better programs were required that could give them a game while still learning the quirks of that individual player. And they had to learn, just playing by rote was not enough. Better programs were created around this principle like Jellyfish and Snowie which were released to the public with wonderful results. These games became really popular as they were considered as the pinnacles of software and backgammon genesis. But after that there was a serious slump in new computer software creations! For some reasons, computer specialists just lost interest in the software programs completely!

But computer programmers can and will create better programs. As users, you and I will have to learn how to get the best out of the existing programs so that we can become experts. And this article is made just for that reason. Here are a few tips to help you out on getting the best out of computer backgammon games:

  • False and misleading information is common with computer backgammon games. The computer game is only as good as the information you put in and if you are not careful you can miss out of quite a few tweaks that the computer robot uses.
  • Jellyfish and Snowie work really and have been around for some time now. They can automatically judge your competence and arrange a game according to your skill levels. You can learn your competency level and get a lot of practice if you download the software for free.
  • Snowie has an internal database of errors and corrections to improve play but they still can’t deal with slight individual variations made by each player. For example, it cannot deal with players that come in against an anchor and the machine gets confused.
  • Special and new techniques can confuse the game bots causing strange ripples in the programs

But rest assured, that even if expert players would prefer to play against human players rather than virtual players; a good software bot can give stiff competition to beginner players to hone their skills.
