Online Backgammon Ban?
Online gambling has for long been a sore point with several countries across the world. The main fight has been that online gambling makes it easier for sites to withdraw money and to send money to players making it a simple route of money laundering for large amount of money got from illegal means. Gamblers or players can use money from their credit cards and debit card to play the game and the payments are made directly back to the credit cards. This has made it more difficult to track the movement of money through sites and into accounts. American banks now do not allow the use of debit cards with internet gaming sites but credit cards can still be used. Apart from the usual route, almost all online gaming companies use online cash companies like Paypal, NETseller, Moneybookers etc to transfer money to winners and to collect money from them.
On the whole different countries have decided to go their own way in legalizing or banning these online gaming sites. Several countries tried to limit the use of online gaming sites with legal maneuvers too but not many countries were successful. Australia on the other hand decided to penalize the websites in a really odd manner. Websites are not allowed to market their services to Australian customers present in Australia and if they are caught, the website will be penalized while the citizen cannot be arrested for using the website! India on the other hand has not yet realized that online gambling is available and we can rest assured that it will take them several years to wake up to the advent of the internet! Israel took the high road with complete banning of all internet gambling sites except Play65 which is one of its homegrown sites.
To tell the truth, each country has decided to follow its own principles regarding online gambling. And to prevent any person from using a website is literally impossible and an infringement of personal rights. Rest assured, the battle is going to be a really long one!
