A few more commonly used strategies in backgammon!
Backgammon has several common strategies that are used to ensure that an individual player wins the game. But strategies have to take into account the progress of the game and other variables that come in.
- A backgame strategy is used when you already have two ore more anchoring chips in your opponent’s home board. This strategy is only used when you are already low on chips and behind in the game. A backgame can significantly increase your chances of winning the game by placing your chips on your opponent’s lower points and adjacent points with a single of his points in the center. But you require precise timing to get this placement right. Ensure that you have spare checkers to move round the board while you build two anchors and then a solid wall in your home board.
- A Blitz game works well if you can keep your opponent on the bar. But it requires a fast game and an even faster strategy that might or might not work with a new partner. And there are larger chances of getting mistakes and losing your chips with this type of game.
- A Priming game is possible when you start building a 6=long wall on the opponents checkers to protect your own. This wall can be built anywhere from the 11-point to the 2-point provided you move it into your home board as the game progresses.
- A Holding game works if you keep a high point in your opponent’s board of the opponents bar board. The player can then win by rolling doubles to allow the player to break the point and win a lead.
As the game progresses you should be able to change your game and to adopt new and modified strategies to eventually win or severely limit your partner while playing.
